The contentious and dividing The Apprentice dresses up Donald Trump’s origin story as a Monster from Mary Shelley. In this story, who is the good doctor? It’s none other than Roy Cohn, who receives some help from the famously violent Fred Trump in creating his monster. Two separate episodes make up director Ali Abassi’s film: an hour in the 1970s where a young, rather uneducated Trump learns the art of the deal from the continuously clever Cohn. Then an hour later, around ten years later, when Trump has become so corrupt and amorality-prone that he will remain like way for the majority of his life.
